A free towing estimate calculator, no signup required
The tool above is exactly what its name says: a free towing estimate calculator that gives you a defensible number in 20 seconds. Set the distance, pick your vehicle (motorcycle, car, SUV or truck), choose the time of service, and you see the full breakdown: base hookup fee, per-mile rate, after-hours surcharge, and total. No login, no email, no follow-up sales calls. Built by a working 24/7 tow operation in Ronkonkoma, NY.
Towing pricing, explained without the surprises
Towing is one of those services where the gap between what you expect and what you pay can be 3–4×. The base hookup fee, the per-mile rate, the after-hours surcharge, and the storage fee (if the truck doesn't deliver same day) all stack. Most drivers find out at the side of the road, usually at 11pm in the rain.
This calculator gives you a realistic line-item estimate before you call dispatch. The base fee is consistent at roughly $50 nationally. The per-mile rate moves with vehicle weight: motorcycles around $3, sedans around $4, SUVs and trucks around $5 because they require more capable equipment. Nights and weekends add 20%.
When this estimator is most useful
- Comparing tow companies. If a quote is meaningfully higher than the calculator's number, ask for an itemized breakdown. A reputable operator will give you base + per-mile + surcharges in writing.
- Deciding if your insurance covers this. Roadside assistance riders typically cover the first $50–$100. If your estimated total is $90, you may pay nothing out of pocket. If it's $250, only a third is covered.
- After an accident or breakdown. Pair this with the roadside emergency checklist so you stay safe while you wait, and the insurance claim readiness checker if there's damage to file for.
What we tell customers before they book a tow
- Ask for a flatbed by default. They cost a small premium but eliminate the risk of drivetrain damage on your way to the shop. Required for AWD, 4WD, and most luxury cars anyway.
- Confirm drop-off destination before hookup. Drivers can't change route mid-tow without re-pricing. Decide in advance: home, shop, or a friend's driveway.
- Get the operator's name and truck number. If anything goes wrong, you have a paper trail. Reputable operators offer this without being asked.
- If you're in a no-park zone or on a freeway, don't wait quietly, that's a 911 call, not a roadside one. Police clear lanes faster than tow operators do.
